I started moving again on Thursday after my week long "don't feel like training" stint. I didn't run for 12 days, didn't cycle for 9 (?) days and haven't swam for 2 weeks +++ and counting. Capsizing doesn't count -_-.
Anyways the 2 slow long runs I've done so far were quite good. Even had a stop over to paddle at Macritchie chasing the K4 (girls boat lah...) for a few seconds. Ha ha. But sigh, I can't imagine crawling over to bedok reservoir every Saturday morn next time for AHM training... Kinda far and I'm lazy.
I had some pavement cycling lessons on Saturday, and well it does show my inadequacy in handling the bike in narrow, dark and non-flat terrain. Too bad for us missing the fireworks at kallang/esplanade though, thanks to some ignorant corporals. I actually joined the Thomson group in the morn, and it was a good thing I was feeling better today, as it was, as expected, a hard ride. The speeds were high and the riders in the front group were all above my level. From longhouse the group was about 50+ riders, and after the attack after mandai it was about 25? The final group was about 15+ I think. Anyways I practically just sucked wheels all day except for 1 attack after mandai and helping to pull a little during the "rest" period along LCK. As for that attack, well, I gave it a shot but was promptly shut down by an immediate counter at a pace I simply could not hold. Out of my league. I experienced that once again along the final slopes returning to mandai when I could not hold the maintenance pace along the incline and started drifting towards the rear. No power. The final sprint was an utter thrashing again. But anyways it was fun. I learnt that it really helps to be near the front, so you don't get stringed out by sudden accelerations upfront and can react faster.
And oh yes, there was one incident when I made a bad impression in the group, and actually got shouted at. Luckily the Schroeder guy gave me a chance to explain myself and things worked out. It happened when the group was weaving through the traffic making a left turn around Ten Mile Junction. I was initially blocked by some stopped traffic so I was lagging the group and had to chase and try to catch up. So I followed another chasing rider and went onto the right side of a bus, which came to stop at the zebra crossing. And what I didn't see was that the group was actually on the left side of the bus, having stopped for some small boys to cross the zebra crossing. The bus obscured my view of whoever was crossing and well, I followed the guy infront and cut the little kids' paths unknowingly, to the dismay of everyone... I gave a bad name to road cyclists whatever the case...
Now it's time to paddle more... Double sessions perhaps, if my body can take it.
