The idea of cycling to thailand is really starting to take some shape. Well, I spent some time reading Khoo Swee Chiow's Singapore to Beijing trip online at www.daretodream.com.sg
Well, disappointingly (in my opinion), he did it with a support vehicle all the way, which i feel takes away half the challenge. There was no need for him to navigate, look for fuel midway, and he simply swapped a wheel when he punctured...
This was his itinerary:
Day 1 Sunctec City to - Pontain Kehchil (83km)
Day 2 Pontain Kehchil - Muar (124km)
Day 3 Muar - Port Dickson (150km)
Day 4 Port Dickson - KL (99km)
Day 5 KL - Slim River (105km)
Day 6 Slim River - Kuala Kangstar (145km)
Day 7 Kuala Kangstar - Butterworth (106km)
Day 8 Butterworth - Alor Setar (104km)
Day 9 Alor Setar - Hat Yai (100km) THAILAND! 1000km mark!
Day 10 Hat Yai (Rest Day) (0km)
Day 11 Hat Yai - Chulaporn (159km)
Day 12 Chulaporn - Tharong (159km)
Day 13 Tharong - Chumphon (175km)
Day 14 Chumphon - Thap Sakae (132km)
Day 15 Thap Sakae - Hua Hin (125km)
Day 16 Hua Hin - Samut Songkhram (117km)
Day 17 Samut Songkhram - Bangkok (76km)
Yeah so it boils down to 1016km in Malaysia and 943km in Thailand itself (why is Bangkok so far in......)
I could probably do this:
Day 1: Home Sweet Home to Muar (207km)
Day 2: Muar to Pork Dickson (150km)
Day 3: Port Dickson to Slim River (204km) no KL! Sob....
Day 4: Slim River to Kuala Kangstar (145km)
Day 5: Kuala Kangstar to Alor Setar (210km)
Day 6: Alor Setar to Hatyai (100km + rest!)
Day 7: Hat Yai - Chulaporn (159km)
Day 8: Chulaporn - Tharong (159km)
Day 9: Tharong - Chumphon (175km)
Day 10: Chumphon - Hua Hin (257km)
Day 11: Hua Hin - Bangkok (193km)
The last 2 days will be a lot of pain =) Just hope the 10th day won't break me. I expect to be able to go at about 29kmh average.
Ha ha. All my clothes and stuff fitted onto a 7kg max rear mounted rack? Challenging.
When to do it? Hmmmmm, exams end on 4th.... If I leave on 5th also impossible to catch SEA games Canoeing (11th to 14th). Anyway I need to train for this for at least a week (i think it would be wise to train for it). And buy equipment too. And do I have Christmas commitments? AAAAHHHHH!
