Saturday's time trial was a disappointment. The result was hardly even meaningful. I have to be honest here and say that the administrative support was as good as non-existent. Complacency in it's full form.
Firstly, the route briefing was very poorly done, and we had conflicting ideas of the turning point. So during the actual run, we didn't know where the turning point was.
Secondly, there was no water point planned until the 10.5km turning point. BUT even that failed, and only SOME of us had water at the 12k mark (it was late). Those who were ahead simply didn;t have ANY water. Anyway, those very same guys who were ahead also exceeded the supposed turning point also.
Thirdly, the remaining, existing water points on the return leg were as good as non existent, with the water point marshalls being totally non-proactive in handing out cups, and also situating themselves 10m away from the running track. WELL DONE. And oh yah, I didn't even know how they looked like prior to the run, so it was a miracle i could identify them anyway.
Fourthly, there was talk a week before the run about powergel. It never happened. And no one even bothered saying anything.
Fifth, at the end point, there were like 3 cups for 20 people to share to drink the water from the water dispenser. Very well done.
Yup, so in the end I tried to execute my race plan but blew up due to lack of water. I didn't even bother finding out my time after completion. It was one of those runs where I wanted to walk after the half way mark.
One NSF PTI even had heat disorder after that.
Calling for a time trial for team selection WITHOUT water points is totally inexcusable. People are pushing their luck really, especially given the current climate about safety.
