Was day dreaming when I cycled to camp this morning and ended up at the borders of Hougang instead of Yishun / Sembawang area.... T_T. Luckily army peeps these days tend to be draggy and slow and they didn't start training until much later.
Today's training:
5 X 1km, 3min (or more i think) rest. Target pace 3:45. Hmmm, kinda slow considering we are an AHM team? *shrugs. I remember for IHG Road Relay we did 3 or 4 sets of 3:30 1km sets, but it was a bit too difficult at that time. My longs runs proved useful as I found the distance mangeable and short even at the high intensities of 90% and above. Did about 3:45, 3:36, 3:40, 3:39, 3:19. The last one was done at like 98% max hr. During recovery between sets hr was about 125. I think for, training and conditioning allows me to maintain high heartrates more comfortably. The aerobic system is able to sustain (and thus not limit) the cardiac output without blowing too quickly.
After that my left knee felt had signs of stiffness and there were clues of stinging sharp pain around the knee when I was slacking. Signs of wear and tear / slight inflammation / tight ligaments. If I was reckless I could easily have pulled my ligaments I think. I would recommend more rest, more stretching, and medium intensity excercises perhaps.
Afternoon training was aqua jogging, which was literally a "breathtaking" experience. Anyway I still find it kind of weird but since it is aerobically draining I guess I'm doing it right? Basically I'm just "hentakaki-ing" in the water with a slight foward lean + arm swings. But one good thing I got out of the pool session is I think I may have realised a more powerful front crawl stroke. It gives a downhill swimming feeling with an exagerrated raised elbow which allows me to generate more force per stroke. Hmmmmm..... Discovered when I wanted to get from one length of the pool to the other as quickly as possible. Must try and remember that feeling.
