Guy spends 3 days studying for midterm test and redoing all his tutorials (he even skipped lecture to study), then comes back with all the wrong answers and bottom 30% of the cohort.
On other news, I went for my first road ride with some NUS cycling peeps. Well, actually it was more of a ride organised by Passion Bikes (the bike shop at Fong Seng) and like 2 NUS cycling club peeps were there. Well, turns out Sunny (sports man of the year 2006/2007) was there too and I had fun being destroyed by him the whole of today.
I discovered a new hill today! Telok Blangah hill, one junction before Mt Faber (Morse Road entrance). I think it's near Nio's house, and it starts with a gentle slope on the main road, then I make a left turn and suddenly I find myself in some sort of difficulty. Hur hur. In fact, it felt like Mt Faber, but not as high although as steep if not slightly more steep.
On the real Mt Faber, and also earlier on South Bouna Vista, I put in a large acceleration and kept at the speed as long as I could, and well, Sunny just simply drafted, then disposed of me when I blew. Hur hur. I couldn't respond at all. And the shop owner Eddie (national cyclist) simply just went past me when he came from behind (he was busy so joined in only half way), as if I was erm, not moving. Well, next time I can do one of 2 things: either keep at a slow pace and just draft when someone attacks, or I can simply put in an even bigger acceleration and keep and even higher pace for an even longer period of time. I hope to (be able to) choose the later.
On the final stretch back towards the shop, a short sprint ensued and I was promptly gapped by about 3 bike lengths. Dunno, still can't sprint out of the saddle, and didn't want to end up kissing the road.
Hmmm, all in all it was a good ride, with a very easy pace on the flats and as hard as you want to make it on the uphills (which was quite hard for me). The NUS cycling people (1 alumni and 1 the vice pres -_-'') need more mileage and base training. The alumni guy cramped out shortly into the ride and the vice pres became too shagged by the end of the ride to even follow the pace on the flat....
And interesting statistic: the national cyclist Eddie weighs 52kg.... What on earth am I doing lugging 21 kg more?? I'm like perpetually doing resistance training.
Argh, all in all set back by like 2.5 hours today thanks to the ride.
